What Works for Us at Two Months

I need to post some pictures from Christmas and the visit from my side of the family, but I thought I would go ahead and post a “What Works for Us at Two Months”.

For a two month old, this is what works and keeps me/Matt sane.

-          Scheduling: Deacon is on a 2.5 to 3 hour schedule right now during the day. In this schedule, he eats, wakes, and sleeps. At around 8 pm we do the last feeding where he is awake, I dream feed him at around 11 and he has been sleeping consistently around 7-9 hours. The past two nights he gave me 8 and 9 hours of sleep. WHOOP.

-          Aquaphor: Deacon has super dry skin. This stuff has been so helpful with taking care of it. The pediatrician said it hurts me to look at it more than it hurts him, but I’m glad to no longer see that Deacon is peeling away.

-          Swaddling: We swaddle for naps and sleep. We will do this until Deacon is showing signs of being able to roll from back to tummy. We do the full arm swaddle. It looks like a straight jacket, but he loves the warmth and tight space.

-          Pacifiers: Babywise disapproves of this but both our boys love pacifiers. I actually love them too because 1) help lower risks of SIDS 2) provide a plug to help when you can’t get them to stop crying- it soothes Deacon instantly.

-          Baby swing: This thing is in our kitchen and used all the time. It is such a great place to put Deacon when I’m trying to get dinner ready or tend to the needs of a potty training two year old.

-          Baby Bjorn: Deacon is in this thing in the morning while I clean bottles and get breakfast ready. It provides a great hands free option while also giving him the snuggle factor that Deacon loves.  Deacon will fall asleep in this thing which is hilarious.

I sent this to Matt yesterday- excuse my face. I am just showing how y'all much Deacon loves this carrier.
I will do a “What Works for Us at Two Years” post sometime in the near future as well.

Icemaggedon and a Visit from Mimi and Pops

I was going to do just one post of December highlights, but then I love pictures and had a hard time narrowing down all the fun exciting things that have happened and are going on (some which include surviving “icemaggedon”, special visits from family, potty training, sleeping in a big boy bed full time, and rolling over from tummy to back-(I’ll let y’all guess who is doing what).

We had the crazy experience losing our electricity for 4.5 days at the beginning of December. At this point Deacon was only six weeks old and there was no way we could just stick it out at home. We spent the first afternoon at the Baker’s while Matt took his online final. The rest of the time we spent with Bethany and Kyle at their house which is about a mile away from ours. It was hit or miss who lost electricity. We were so thankful for them and that the Lord provided such good friends who didn’t mind us invading their house for so long. The first couple pictures are from that “remember when experience”.

Noah was Bethany's helper with the Christmas tree ornaments- wearing the beads that were supposed to be on the tree.

Eating Spaghetti at their house- The Phillip's have an awesome camera hence the awesome pictures Kyle took
Bethany came home one night with a craft project for Noah. Snowmen made from powder sugar doughnuts- he loved it!

Trying to get a bite
As you can bet, Noah was sad to their leave home and all of the attention.

Luckily, a couple weeks later Pops and Mimi came to visit from Virginia. It was so nice to see them. We hadn’t seen them in almost a year. Noah loved all the attention and thought they were so much fun.. Matt and his dad did all these amazing house projects while Tari and I kept the boys entertained. Tari and I also decorated for Christmas which I had intended to do the weekend of the ice storm. We felt so spoiled with love and wish Virginia and Texas weren’t so far apart. Here are some pictures from their fun visit!

Deacon is Two Months!

Weight/Length- We go a week from Friday. At his one month, he was 9 pounds 4 ounces. I predict that he will be around 11 pounds 6 ounces.

Eating- Deacon eats every 2.5-3 hours. He will sometimes eat around every 2 right before he goes down- cluster feeding before the big sleep. He still is on mama’s milk.

Bedtime/Awake- Deacon consistently gives me around 6-8 hours of sleep at night. I feed him around 8:00 to 8:30. Matt does the dream feed around 11:30 to midnight. He then will sleep until around 6-7:30.

Diapers- We are using up our last newborns. He is ready for the 1’s.

Clothes- Deacon is in 0-3 months and 3 months.

Dislikes- There isn’t much Deacon dislikes. He is our easy going second child that will sit in his car seat, lay in his swing, and go with the flow. Tummy time is not his favorite, but he will do it if you catch him in the right mood. He does have the bewitching hour some nights around 7-9 where he is just fussy. It usually is from the overstimulation during the day. I’m so thankful he doesn’t mind be carted around on my errands or our outings to the park. He is rarely fussy during the day.

Likes- Deacon loves the baby carrier. He doesn’t want to face me, he wants to see the world. I usually have him in it during the mornings while I’m getting breakfast ready and cleaning up. He is a big fan of the swing and the mobile that comes with it. He will lay in there for an hour (and usually fall asleep). Baths are still a real treat for him. He loves his changing table and offers lots of smiles when he is given a fresh diaper.

Favorite memories of the month- there are too many. I am planning on doing a December catch up post. I ended up taking a sabbatical and have some pretty sweet pictures of the boys and family.

Deacon is absolutely the perfect addition to our family. He is this sweet bundle of joy that offers lots of smiles and is starting to coo. Noah is VERY fond of him and continues to be my biggest helper.  I could not imagine life without these two sweet boys and their daddy.
